Hey all. I want to get a bass guitar that supports distortion. In the meantime, how can I hook my bass up to pedals that will do distortion? I have a basic amp with an input jack for the bass connection, and an output for headsets or speakers.
hmm, their are a lot of distortion options out there, but you'll probably want a petal that can really handle low end.
But the basics work like this. Most petals are simple enough, you have an in connecter, an out connecter on the left and right side of the box respectively. On top you have the foot switch and controls. You use one standard guitar cable, plug that in to the petal, and then get another which you run from petal to amp.
Agreed with what James said here. Also, it's not the bass guitar you're as concerned with but the pedal itself.
yes, they are right, you only have to get your self a Bass Effects Pedal like the distortion or some other effects

Thanks! I'll pick some up and see what I like! Add that to my Christmas list.
I recommend multi-effects pedals like zoom, although they are kinda hard to program with out sited assistance you'll get lots of effects in just a price of a single pedal. how ever, the single pedals are easyer to use and sounds better and cool to look-at when set-up in a pedal-board.
btw, be sure to ask for a bass-guitar effect pedal, because a rhythm/lead guitar effects is diffrent...
I've used a Big Muff Pie.
actually some multifx pedals have usable software that is somewhat accessible.
I remember the software for the ZoomG9.2 guitar usinit was quite usable with
jaws. Also don't be afraid of trying guitar distortion pedals. Bassist have been
fans of the big muff on bass. There is a reason they finally made a bass big
muff, but some bassist still prefer the guitar ones. Bottom line try a bunch of
stuff and see which you like. Youtube is also a good place to get an idea of
what things sounds life, if you find a pedal you think you may like search the
pedal name on youtube to see if there are any demo videos.
Wish I could get a vintage 60's fuzz face pedal.
I absolutely love it when fretless basses are distorted. Just sayin'.
I want a fretless bass so badly. I just need to find one for a decent price and a pedal that is also at a decent price. That'll knock two things off my musicician wish list.
I like the sound of a bass run through a stomp box, right into the mixing console.
I like bassists who use technique and distortion, like Geddy Lee.
And Lemmy!
Ah yes, can't pass up on Lemmy now. Motorhead is some fantastic music.
That they are. And so is/was Dream Theater, especially Mike Portnoy.
I've got a decent little bass pedal that has served me well so far. I believe the model is the Zoom B3. I really love this one because it's basically a tiny pedal board with three stomp boxes set into one little unit that's maybe seven or eight inches square and a few inches tall. I love it because, like I said, it's built to act like three stomp boxes. You can set a different effect to each and use up to all three of them simultaneously. You can also plug an expression pedal into it and have it act as a wah wah effect.
Nifty! I may buy a Big muff if the economy permits.
